Forget The Mirror

As I sit at home after being drenched in the spring river, I made a realization. I noticed that at home I am always concerned about my image, Checking the mirror over and over, Always being overly concerned. In past weeks I attended my youth groups bible study. We conversed about the man who looks in the mirror and forgets his face. I can't quote the scripture or go into everything we discussed, But I can make a point. I spent the weekend soaked with my friends and acquaintances, philosophizing about the lives that my friends and I live. Throughout the entire time I only saw my face once. This allowed me to think of other people in ways I usually don't. Wondering what they see, what they think, how they feel. Forgetting myself, And my thoughts. I'm not saying that you should forget about yourself, And look like like a total slob. All I'm saying is its good to chill out and not worry about yourself. Life is a river, If you spend all of your time trying to push yourself one way. You'll end up wet and stuck on the bank. When you steer a canoe, you don't paddle one way and hope you end up where you want to go. You gently nudge the water around you, And the current does the rest. As Christians We need to spend less time looking in the mirror and more time with each other.

Curl of the burl

"What in the world does that mean? Curl of the burl? Sounds like some plant infection!" Its a simple phrase. its means. "Thats just the way the world goes." Its kind of like YOLO but not retarded. I say this phrase to remind myself that the world is moving in the direction God wants it to go, And that there is little that I can do to change it. Remember Kony 2012? Yeah that did allot. (Sarcasm) Things happen, Thats just the way the world works, Thats just the Curl of the Burl.

Wear it like armor.

Everyone has imperfections. Its what makes us ourselves. There are allot of people shouting this message all over the world. We hear this all of the time. So why does it still hurt us when people point out our imperfections? Well maybe Its our mentality. We still see them as imperfections. They still bring us shame. If everyone has them they shouldn't be such a big deal, But it is. People with a wrong heart will use our imperfections to hurt us. The simple way to deal with this is to wear your imperfections like armor. There is a saying, "Wear it like armor, and none can use it to hurt you." Your imperfections are the best defense you have. Keep in mind these people who would hurt you, are hurt themselves. They have imperfections to. Once you bear your armor, You can do three things. You can hurt them, You can ignore them. Or you can help them. What you chose to do is your business, But try to do the right thing. Never forget. "Wear it like armor, and none can use it to hurt you."

Your Artistic bubble, and Instagram.

This is something I felt I had to wright about. There are a breed of people who call themselves artistic, free thinkers, and deep. These are the people who abuse stuff like instagram. Basically they take a picture of the sunset on their Iphone ad some snazzy effects through instagram and brag about how artistic they are. I think they honestly have no clue what art is. If this describes you listen up!

Art is something you do, something that defines you. It is almost anything you can throw all of your heart and passion into. The artist is someone who gets up and throws hi's or her's passion into a painting. They are the people who tirelessly spend hours playing music. They are the people who dedicate a large amount of time and energy doing what they love. They are the dancers, the painters, the musicians, the athletes, the philosophers And yes even the photographers. (The ones with a real passion for it.)

Just because you take five seconds to take a picture of your eyeball and ad some retarded effects, Does not mean you are an artist. I suggest you continue being a normal person and stop calling yourself an artist, or deep, or artistic. Unless you actually take the time to do the things that you love, and work hard to earn your title. Shut-up!

Keep calm, And dress nice.

Have you ever felt self conscious?, like you are ugly? Like you just weren't good enough? Maybe you tug at your shirt because you feel fat. You might think that everyone says you are ugly. You'd be wrong. If you do a good job of picking out good friends then you are certainly wrong. So if they don't care what you look like, what is making you feel self conscious?
Well you might wan't to examine what you wear to school or youth group. If you were old T shirts and basketball shorts, in a place where everyone is dressing nic, You will probably feel awkward. The same applies to pretty much everything. Wear whats appropriate, and you won't have to worry about your cloths, Giving you time to have fun and enjoy being with friends.
If you are saying to you're self "That is stupid, You should be able to wear what you want! I wear what I want!" I get that I'm not telling anyone to do anything, I'm just trying to help anyone who struggles with this. I used to struggle with it to. Its really not about the cloths you wear, its about your attitude and how you carry yourself. Dressing nice helps you get over self consciousness, allowing you to focus on having fun!
